Their dresses are similar in color to the flower bed that each one is looking at. As the text in the story says, "We were looking at everyone's tulips. She [my mother] was saying she liked red tulips and I was saying I liked yellow ones."

People in a family often have different interests and different kinds of things they like, and that is good. This picture illustrates how the world is very colorful, made up of many beautiful things, and that being together is what's really fun and important about being a family.
